2021 Review of Communication Skills unit standards
Closed 25 Nov 2021
Current
NZQA National Qualifications Services (NQS) has reviewed the Communication Skills unit standards in domains:
- Interpersonal Communications
- Reading
- Writing
The current version of these standards are available at Subfield - Communication Skills (nzqa.govt.nz).
NQS invites comment and feedback on the reviewed standards below, to nqs@nzqa.govt.nz by Thursday 25 November. The main changes as a result of the review are:
- the insertion of explicit expectation that all activities relevant to the Communication Skills standards will reflect the ngā kaupapa o te Tiriti o Waitangi (the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi) and will, as relevant to candidates and/or the standard, reflect the peoples of the Pacific and other cultures, and their world views
- a new definition of culture has been included in standards 1304 and 11099
- where relevant the possibility of assessment in online/digital context(s) has been made explicit
- a new listening standard is proposed: Understand and assess non-written texts on a topic
- standards 1277 and 9680 have been combined and replaced by a new standard, following feedback that the two standards duplicate each other significantly
- standards 9685, 9707, 11099, 11101 have become single-outcome standards
- the titles of 2989, 28990, 10791, 11099, 19629 have been rephrased to better reflect the intended outcomes
- the level and/or credits of standards 3501, 9707, 10792 have been changed to better reflect the content
- standards 9678, 9679, 9691, 9692, 9701, 9703, 11096, 11098, 12336 are recommended for expiry due to low and/or declining usage, and no discernible interest in future usage.
There are more minor changes in other standards which do not materially affect their outcomes. Tracked versions of standards are available on request to nqs@nzqa.govt.nz.
NQS invites feedback on the draft reviewed unit standards.
