Bite-Sized Modules and Short Courses
Subject-specific, self-enrol, self-paced modules focusing on a variety of subjects and standards.
Bite-sized modules are intended to be short bursts of information and activities focusing on particular aspects of achievement standards. The modules can take up to 60 minutes to complete, but assessors can access the materials and activities as many times as desired.
Our short courses contain more content, and can take up to 120 minutes to complete.
These modules can all be paused and resumed and completed at the learner’s own pace.
Online Making Assessor Judgements
Making Assessor Judgements Workshops are now available online. These courses are subject-specific and provide assessors with real samples of student evidence. Assessors can self-enrol, with multiple courses running per year.
The activities can be repeated as many times as necessary, and participants are able to learn, reflect, practice, and then go back to complete the content, working at their own pace.
Aims of the Online Making Assessor Judgements Workshops:
- To increase assessor confidence when making assessment judgments for internally assessed standards.
- To judge real samples of student work.
- To engage with explanations from the moderator to support their interpretation of the standards.
Who should enrol:
- Assessors who need to improve their assessment judgements.
- Assessors new to standards-based assessment and the NCEA.
- Beginning assessors.
Assessment Approaches
Assessment Approaches is a free introductory course for assessors wishing to learn more about different ways of approaching assessment.
- Consider the benefits of using different assessment approaches.
- Hear from teachers and students about their experiences.
- Develop strategies that will work for you and your students in your subject.
This is freely available on Pūtake using your Education Sector Logon.
Transforming Assessment Praxis (TAP) programme
Transforming Assessment Praxis (TAP) is an online workshop, aimed at providing assessors with strategies to modify existing resources to meet the needs of learners, and to explore different and valid ways of collecting evidence.
The workshop features activities, videos and professional readings, and encourages feedback from colleagues via formal and informal collaboration. The content is geared towards practical, research-based ideas and resources.
TAP is designed to use the self-reflection and discussion of participants as an important catalyst for change. This workshop allows for participants to learn and then trial assessment strategies that they can easily implement with their learners.
Aims: To raise assessor confidence in recontextualising assessment resources to better meet the needs of students, while exploring different ways of collecting student evidence.
As you participate in this online workshop you will:
- look at ways to change existing resources to better meet the needs of your learners
- explore strategies to enable you to create a variety of new assessment resources; and
- explore diverse and valid methods of collecting assessment evidence to meet the varied needs of learners.
You will work collaboratively with other assessors learning how to write resources that cater to the needs of your own learners. By the end of the workshop you will have your own assessment resource.
This workshop was initially piloted during 2015 with a number of participants from all over New Zealand (including one from the Cook Islands). Since then a number of workshops have been delivered, with very positive feedback from participants.
