This tewhatewha was part of a series of weapons made this year for my body of work as part of Level 3 Whakairo. I have tried exploring different ideas such as experimenting with binding, shape and form, to give this tewhatewha a different style. The koruru is based on a customary style facing both front and back, to show how we acknowledge the past in our pursuit of the future. The faces represent the eight children of Rangitihi, known within Te Arawa as Nga Pumanawa e Waru.
