Introduction from Dr Grant Klinkum

The Ringa Toi Student Exhibition is in its sixth year.  The first exhibition was held in 2016 at the Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Porirua Campus.  For the past four years, the exhibition was held at the Asteron Centre in Central Wellington.  I’d like to acknowledge Grant Corleison, sponsor and co-owner of the Asteron Centre who passed away earlier this year.

In 2020, we exhibited more than 150 artworks from 45 kura at the Asteron Centre.  That was our largest number of works and participating kura to date.

In 2021, as we continue to experience the impact of COVID-19, NZQA had to cancel this year’s Ringa Toi exhibition.  Instead, we decided to host this online album, where we can continue to acknowledge mātauranga Māori and celebrate ākonga success in Toi Māori.

I’d like to acknowledge the ākonga and kura who have submitted digital works and photos of their artworks for this year’s exhibition.  We appreciate that the disruption this year means there was less classroom time to prepare your artwork, and thank you for sharing your work with us.

To the ākonga, kura and Aotearoa whānui, I hope you enjoy viewing this year’s online exhibition.   I look forward to hosting next year’s Ringa Toi exhibition in person.

Nō reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā rā tātau katoa.
