Statement

My mother is Māori and my father is European. I enjoy being around my culture and have a lot of interest in all forms of art, including painting, photography and sculpture. My marae in Kakahi, near Taumarunui was painted by Peter Mcintyre, for his book entitled "Kakahi". The dairy has a copy of this book and I like to look through the paintings of my family inside and become inspired. This is where my interest for art and painting started. This work shows the view behind clothing and how it can overpower a person's identity. The loss of identity is represented by the overpowering of the clothing. I feel that clothing plays a big part in identity and every day it is used to define people. I wanted to show how I think and what that looks like in my point of view.
