New Zealand Scholarship results released today

4 February 2021

More than 10,400 students who entered for New Zealand Scholarship examinations in 2020 can now log into the NZQA website to check their results.

Of those who sat New Zealand Scholarship, 2,148 students were awarded one or more scholarships across the 36 subjects.

New Zealand Scholarship assesses students on their ability to demonstrate high-level critical thinking, abstraction and generalisation.

“New Zealand Scholarship is regarded as the most prestigious secondary school award in the country,” says NZQA Deputy Chief Executive Assessment, Kristine Kilkelly.

“New Zealand Scholarship is designed to challenge the very best students and offers financial rewards for those going on to full-time tertiary study in New Zealand.”

“All Scholarship recipients deserve to be congratulated for their hard work and achievement.”

The names of Premier Award, Outstanding Scholar Award and Top Subject Scholar Award winners will be posted on NZQA’s website on the afternoon of 5 February.

Notes for editors:

  • The delay in announcing Award winners is to give the recipients a chance to view their results online, before their names are published.
  • To receive a monetary award, recipients must be enrolled in full-time tertiary study in New Zealand, and they may defer the monetary prize for up to four years after leaving school.
  • For awards with second or subsequent year payments, students must maintain at least a “B” grade average in tertiary study in New Zealand.
  • Where a candidate meets the criteria for more than one monetary award, they will receive only the award of the highest monetary value. Where a candidate receives a Top Subject Scholar Award and also a Single Subject Award in a different subject, they will receive the Top Subject Scholar Award and a maximum of one $500 Single Subject Award.
