New Zealand Sign Language – temporary removal of external credit requirement for course endorsement - A2022/1

To:

  • Principal
  • Principal's Nominee
  • All teachers

About the temporary exemption

From 2022, where all the standards in a course come from the subject New Zealand Sign Language, there will no longer be the requirement for three externally assessed credits to be achieved for a learner to gain a course endorsement.

This temporary exemption will apply until externally assessed New Zealand Sign Language achievement standards are available.

This exemption recognises that there are currently no externally assessed standards for New Zealand Sign Language.

Designing courses

Schools/kura determine which standards will be assessed in a course. Courses should be a coherent package of learning and assessment that contribute to the school curriculum programme and support student pathways.
