Final data submission is 15 December 2021

The last data file submission for 2021 is due by midnight 15 December 2021.

Due to COVID disruption, the data file submission link remains open until then so schools can continue to report results and correct errors.

Do not withdraw Leavers until after you submit your final data file. Where possible leave their enrolment active in your SMS until the end of January 2022 so they can view their results through your student portal.

Keep their email account live until the end of January 2022 as they may have used it to register their NZQA student login.

Late internally assessed results intended for inclusion in your school’s 2021 results data can be entered using your Provider Login via the High Security/Add Results link.

This link will open on 17 December 2021 and close on 28 February 2022.

Key dates calendar for 2022

The 2022 Key Dates Calendar will be published on the NZQA website in mid-December 2021. Hard copies will be sent to schools in the first week of Term 1, 2022.

If you don't want a 2022 Key Dates Wall Planner, please email Lise.Nansen@nzqa.govt.nz by Wednesday 16 December 2021.

Leading National Assessment seminars 2022

Leading National Assessment (LNA) seminars will be held between 22 February and 12 March 2022. T

The seminars are an opportunity for Principal’s Nominees and senior leaders who manage assessment to discuss issues and be updated on assessment initiatives.

E tū ana ngā hēmina LNA mō ngā kura Māori hei te tau 2022, e aro atu ana ki aua kaupapa tonu mā te tirohanga Māori e ai ki ngā tikanga Māori.  There will be LNA Seminars for kura Māori in 2022, looking at the same content through a tikanga Māori lens.

Details will be sent in January 2022.

Reporting the completion of a New Zealand certificate

NZ Certificate data due by 8 December 2021.

Schools need to report students who have gained a New Zealand Certificate through an approved programme of study by 8 December 2021.

NZQA will send a certificate to the student and add it to their New Zealand Record of Achievement. Please send your completed spreadsheet (external link) to your School Relationship Manager.

NCEA results

Reminders of what to do when NCEA results are here.

Learning recognition credits

When results are released, students will be able to use their Student Login to see how many Learning Recognition Credits (LRCs) they earned in 2021.

We will make regular updates to include any additional or late results, or any changes in results after reviews or reconsiderations.

Schools can see the LRCs students have earned in the Qualifications report with LRCs in their Provider Login.

Change of address and return of exam booklets

Students who have a permanent change of address after your final data file for 2021 need to contact NZQA by 19 December 2021 to update their details.

This makes sure portfolios and NZ Scholarship booklets get sent to the correct address.

You will need to make the address change in your SMS before the first file submission in 2022.

Marked NCEA and NZ Scholarship Media Studies work will be available to students electronically through the NZQA website’s Student Login. These booklets will not be posted back to students.

Release of 2021 NCEA results and statistics reports

We will advise you of the release date for the 2021 NCEA results once exams finish. Temporary 2021 NCEA statistics are available shortly after results release day.

New Zealand Record of Achievement (NZRoA)

New Zealand Record of Achievements (NZRoA) for students will be updated when qualifications are released in January 2022.

NZoA's are available online through the Student Login. Students can get one hard copy free of charge, with further copies costing $15.30 each.

Reconsideration application fees waived for students who meet income criteria

NZQA will waive the fee for students who meet the income criteria and apply for a reconsideration of an NCEA or Scholarship result.

The fee will be waived for students:

  • whose parent or guardian (or a person with relevant care responsibilities) is receiving a Work and Income or Study Link benefit; or
  • where the joint family income would entitle the family to receive a community services card (as set annually by the Ministry of Social Development).

These are the same entitlement criteria as used previously for financial assistance for NCEA fees.

Information to students will be included with results release and with the returned exam papers so schools do not need to take any action. However, you may wish to let students and their families know. Some students may seek your advice about how to apply in February after their papers are returned.

We will email you in December 2021 or January 2022 once your Moderation Plan is available.

Guidelines explaining how to do this were included in Appendix 1 of EmaiLink 7.

Moderation and assessment specifications

Feedback on Moderation Reports

You will notice that when you view a provisional moderation report there is now a Feedback button alongside the Query and Appeal buttons.

The feedback button is a chance for you to comment on the detail, clarity, and helpfulness of the moderation report.

Clicking on the feedback button will open a pop-up window in which you can select your responses from the drop downs alongside each question. When you click on Submit in this window it will close and save your responses.

2022 Assessment Specifications

2022 Assessment Specifications for NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship external assessment will be published on 15 December 2021. Details will appear on each subject page.

2021 National Moderator Reports

There will be no National Moderator Reports about 2021 External Moderation in March 2022.

The COVID disruption meant there isn't enough moderation samples to report on moderator insights. It would not be appropriate to provide feedback on the reduced sample of submissions.

Checklist for data file submission for 15 December 2021

Check these as you plan your submissions:

  • Check accuracy of students’ reported results
  • Check the status of any internal entries that do not have results. If the student has had an adequate assessment opportunity, then a grade should be reported. If there has not been an assessment opportunity, then the entry should be withdrawn. Entries cannot be withdrawn after this file submission. The Candidate Entries and Results Report is useful for checking reported entries and results
  • Check course names. These cannot be changed after a file submission
  • Check whether unassigned standards should be in courses. Remember standards within courses must have been assessed this year
  • For Year 13 and any other leavers, make sure to leave their NZQA enrolment active when you take them off your school roll. This ensures that their results and any external entries you want are retained and are visible in the NZQA Learner login when results are published in January 2022
  • Check that students who have been withdrawn during the year have valid results reported (if they are not being reported by another provider) and do not have any active entries if these should have been withdrawn
  • Check any changes to students’ details such as address changes and name corrections

Principal's Nominee (PNs) checklist

PNs need to:

  • Inform teachers about 2022 Assessment Specifications becoming available in December
  • Submit final data file no later than 11.59 PM 15 December 2021
  • Ensure embargoed results are not released to students
  • Complete outstanding derived grade applications by 16 December 2021
  • Update school contact information with details of staff available over the summer holiday
