Assessing against standards not listed on the BSAS
If a school or wharekura wants to assess against standards that are not listed on the BSAS they must apply to NZQA for an extension of their consent to assess.

If a standard is expiring
If a standard has been reviewed and designated as expiring it is no longer available for new programmes. An extension of consent to assess for the standard cannot be approved.

How to apply for an extension
To apply for an extension please complete the following documents and submit them with your application through your Provider login.
Contact your School Relationship Manager (SRM) if you wish to discuss the detail of your application.
Required documentation
Complete the following and submit them as PDFs with your online application:
- The Consent and Moderation Requirements form (CMR) [DOC, 37 KB]
- For Level 4 standards in the Field Māori complete the subfield specific CMRs instead:
- Letter template seeking consent to assess extension [DOC, 30 KB]
- Attestation form [DOCX, 19 KB]
If the Standard Setting Body is a Workforce Development Council
If the Standard Setting Body (SSB) is a Workforce Development Council (WDC) the school must contact the WDC and seek support for the consent to assess extension for the relevant standards.
Letter from the Principal to ITO seeking support for use of their standards [DOC, 27 KB]
You should also attach the completed consent and moderation requirements (CMR) form to your letter so the WDC can evaluate the school’s ability to meet the consent and moderation requirements to assess the relevant standards.
You don't need to submit a copy of the CMR form if the letter of support from your WDC attests that the school has met the consent and moderation requirements for all the standards in the application.
Submitting your application
Submit your application through the 'Applications' link in the 'School's Administration' area of your Provider login.
