Programme monitoring for the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4) (Academic)

In 2019 and 2020, NZQA monitored TEOs delivering a programme leading to the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) (Academic) (Level 4).

NZQA monitored these programmes as the qualification is recognised for English proficiency entry to higher level programmes, including Business Diplomas in which NZQA had previously identified some quality issues.

See the monitoring summary for the NZCEL for more information on monitoring findings and good practice guidance.

Programmes leading to the NZCEL (Academic) (Level 4) include five mandatory English for Academic Purposes standards. These standards are moderated by NZQA each year as part of the national external moderation system.

This moderation was suspended in 2019/2020 while NZQA monitored programmes leading to the NZCEL (Academic) (Level 4) but has since resumed.

For information on the NZCEL qualifications, see the NZCEL Guiding Document and English for Academic Purposes standards (PDF, 460KB).
