Statement |
I have a great interest in studying the history of my ancestors. I wanted to gain knowledge about my ancestors and who they were. I learned through tracking my family tree with my mum and pop’s help, that Wiremu Ngatata was my great grandfather back five generations. And from studying the painting of him by Gottfried Lindauer, I found a gorgeous realistic artwork of Ngapie. Realism is my art form for investigating, and expressing my thoughts. Through my recreation of the painting, from sketches to perfect the proportions, to the final product, I gathered knowledge and understanding of who she was.
