Statement |
“We seem to have forgotten that we are such a people ... our roots ... our origins are embedded in the sea... our ancestors were brought here by the sea ... the sea is our pathway to each other and to everyone else, the sea is our endless sage” – Epeli Ha’uofa” I am proud of my Cook Island Māori and te reo Māori ancestry. I wanted to show images and symbols of the beautiful Pacifika origin. The idea and inspiration of this work came from my nan, who came from a small island called Aitutaki, located near Rarotonga. I am honouring my ancestors and connection to the sea. .
