An expected result of learning in terms of skills and knowledge.

level 

The ten levels of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework. Levels are based on complexity, with Level 1 the least complex and Level 10 the most complex. All qualifications on the NZQF are assigned on the 10 levels.

Managing National Assessment (MNA)

Managing National Assessment (MNA) is the term used to describe the processes for achieving valid, fair, accurate and consistent internal assessment in schools.  It is a partnership between schools and NZQA by which NZQA checks, evaluates and reports on schools’ processes and systems to ensure that internal assessment decisions and systems remain effective.

Whakawākanga Aromatawai ā-Motu

He tukanga hei whakaū i te tika, i te pono me te taurite o ngā aromatawai ā-roto kei ngā kura. He hononga i waenga nui i te kura me NZQA. He arohaehae i whaihua  o ngā tukanga me ngā pūnaha aromatawai ā-roto.

marker 

A person appointed and trained by NZQA to be responsible for ensuring valid, fair and consistent assessment judgements. Markers assist with the operation of the external assessment process, being allocated a number of answer booklets for which they are responsible for marking.

kaimāka

Ko tētahi tangata kua whakatūngia, kua whakangungua e te Mana Tohu Mātauranga o Aotearoa ka noho haepapa ki te whakapūmau i te pono, i te tika me te ōritetanga o ngā whakawākanga aromatawai. Master's degree

A level 9 qualification with the purpose to qualify individuals who apply on advanced body of knowledge in a range of contexts for research, a pathway for further learning and professional practice. A Master's degree may equally be multidisciplinary.

Tohu Paerua

Ko tētahi tohu mātauranga ka whai, ka tāpiri mātauranga me ngā pūkenga ki te Tohu Paetahi, kia kaha ake te mahi me te akoranga e hiahiatia ana, hei rangahau, hei tūhura, hei whai i te ngāiotanga.

Mātauranga Māori evaluative quality assurance

Mātauranga Māori Evaluative Quality Assurance (MM EQA) is a partnership between mātauranga Māori and the evaluative quality assurance approach.  There is an important need for a quality assurance approach, which provides a constructive way of coming to a “shared” understanding about an organisation's performance and capability in delivering high quality education from a mātauranga Māori perspective.

Te Whakaū Kounga me te Aromātai o te Mātauranga Māori

Ko te Whakaū Kounga me te Aromātai o te Mātauranga Māori tētahi hononga o te whakaū kounga me te aromātai ki Mātauranga Māori.  He hiranga tā te mahi whakaū kounga hei whai pānga, hei whaimōhio i ngā mahi i tutuki me te kaha o te rōpū amorangi mātauranga ki te whakapuaki mātauranga kounga ki tā te tirohanga Māori.

National external moderation provides assurance that assessment decisions are made at the national standard.

A panel with acknowledged expertise to confirm that assessment results reflect the standard described.

moderator

An independent person who has acknowledged expertise to confirm that assessment results reflect intended standards.

monitor

An independent person who undertakes monitoring of degrees and related qualifications to provide NZQA with assurance that the degree programme is being delivered in accordance with the requirements of the initial approval and accreditation and that the programme is  still degree worthy and meets the needs of stakeholders.

National Certificate of Educational Achievement 

The National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) is New Zealand’s main national qualification for senior secondary school and is available in three levels.

 National Diploma

A qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (PDF, 606KB) that recognises skills and knowledge that meet nationally endorsed standards (unit and achievement standards); National Diplomas are registered between levels 5 and 7. National qualifications are being phased out and replaced by New Zealand qualifications.

New Zealand Certificate

New Zealand Scholarship

The New Zealand Scholarship examinations are designed to extend the top-performing final year 13 students, and to provide grants to help with tertiary study.  It does not contribute to a qualification.

norm-referenced assessment

Learner achievement which is judged/ranked against the achievements of other learners.

Notional Learning Hours

Notional learning hours comprise all planned learning activities leading toward the achievement of programme or qualification learning outcomes. Ten notional learning hours equals one credit.

Haora Akoranga Ariā
