Te Marautanga o Aotearoa subjects – temporary removal of external credit requirement for course endorsement

From 2021 there will no longer be the requirement for three externally assessed credits to be achieved for a learner to gain an endorsement for courses in each of the following Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA) subjects:

  • Hangarau
  • Hauora
  • Ngā Toi
  • Ngā Toi (Ngā Mahi a Te Rēhia)
  • Ngā Toi (Toi Ataata)
  • Ngā Toi (Toi Puoro)
  • Pūtaiao
  • Tikanga-a-iwi.

This change recognises that there are currently no externally assessed standards in these TMoA subjects and will apply until the new internally and externally assessed TMoA achievement standards are available.

There is no change to the external credit requirement for courses in Pāngarau and Te Reo Rangitira, where three externally assessed credits will still be required.

Designing courses

Schools/kura determine which standards will be assessed in a course. Courses should be a coherent package of learning and assessment that contribute to the school curriculum programme and support student pathways.
